Male Ukrainian name (Айдер)
Aider (Ukrainian: Айдер) is a male name of Turkic (Crimean Tatar) origin, traditionally interpreted as «one who has the strength to return», «to return as a victor»; sometimes interpreted as «lion», «ruler».
The name derives from the Arabic-Persian root حيدر (ḥaydar, «lion»), which entered Turkic languages as an honourable epithet. Haydar was one of the epithets of Caliph Ali — cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, a symbol of courage and chivalry in the Islamic tradition. In the Crimean Tatar form Aider, it is a traditional Crimean Tatar male name. In Ukraine the name Aider is found primarily among the Crimean Tatar community, for whom it forms part of a cultural-religious heritage.
From Arabic-Persian ḥaydar («lion»); an epithet of Caliph Ali. In Turkic languages it became established as an honourable name.
