Male Ukrainian name (Артем)
Artem (Ukrainian: Артем) is a male name of Greek origin meaning «dedicated to Artemis» or «unharmed, healthy» (by another etymology). Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, the moon, and wild nature in ancient Greek mythology.
The name derives from Ancient Greek Ἀρτέμιος (Artémios) — an adjective formed from the name of the goddess Ἄρτεμις (Artemis). By another etymology, the name is related to the adjective ἀρτεμής (artemēs, «unharmed, whole, healthy»), so it can be interpreted as «healthy, full of strength». In Christian tradition Artem entered through the Great Martyr Artemios of Antioch (4th century), especially venerated in Eastern Christianity. It reached the Slavs through Byzantine literature; the Ukrainian form Artem is native, with the characteristic short ending (in contrast with Russian Artyom).
From Greek Artémios («dedicated to Artemis»); by another version — from artemēs («unharmed, healthy»).
