Female Ukrainian name (Лідія)
Lidiia (Ukrainian: Лідія) is a female name of Greek origin meaning «woman from Lydia», «Lydian» — from the name of the ancient country of Lydia in Asia Minor.
The name derives from Ancient Greek Λυδία (Lydía) — the name of a historical region in western Asia Minor, famous for its wealth (the legendary gold of Croesus) and the earliest minted coins. In the New Testament, Lydia is the first European Christian, a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira (Asia Minor) baptized by the Apostle Paul in the city of Philippi (Acts 16:14–15). She is especially venerated as a patron of merchants and one of the first Christian women. The name came to the Slavs through Greco-Byzantine literature. In Ukraine, Lidiia is an old, venerated female name with a gentle sound.
From Ancient Greek Lydía — the name of a historical region of western Asia Minor; «woman from Lydia».
