Male Ukrainian name (Назар)
Nazar (Ukrainian: Назар) is a male name of Hebrew origin meaning «dedicated to God», «one from Nazareth», «consecrated».
The name derives from Hebrew נָזִיר (nāzîr, «consecrated, dedicated to God») or from the name of the town of Nazareth (in northern Galilee) associated with the life of Jesus Christ. The Latin form Nazarius became established through early Christian literature. The name entered Christian tradition through Saint Nazarius of Milan (1st century), venerated in both Western and Eastern Churches. It came to the Slavs through the Byzantine onomasticon; in the Ukrainian tradition Nazar is an ancient name, especially common in Western Ukraine, with a marked surge in popularity in the 20th–21st centuries.
From Hebrew nāzîr («consecrated to God») or from the toponym Nazareth; Latinized form — Nazarius.
