Male Ukrainian name (Валентин)
Valentyn (Ukrainian: Валентин) is a male name of Latin origin meaning «strong», «healthy», «vigorous» — close in root to Valerii.
The name derives from Latin Valentinus, formed from the adjective valens («strong, healthy, vigorous»). It entered the Christian tradition through several early Christian saints, the best known being Saint Valentine of Interamna (Rome), a 3rd-century bishop who later came to be associated with the patron of lovers (Saint Valentine's Day, 14 February). The name came to the Slavic onomasticon through Church Slavonic and Latin literature; in the Ukrainian tradition Valentyn and its feminine form Valentyna became especially popular in the 20th century.
From Latin Valentinus, derived from valens («strong, healthy») with the suffix -inus («belonging to»).
