Male Ukrainian name (Всеволод)
Vsevolod (Ukrainian: Всеволод) is a male name of Slavic origin meaning «one who rules over all», «all-powerful». One of the oldest princely names of Kyivan Rus.
The name is formed from two Proto-Slavic roots: *vĭśĭ («all, every») and *voldě- («to rule, govern»). It was borne by several Grand Princes of Kyiv — among them Vsevolod I Yaroslavych (1030–1093), son of Yaroslav the Wise and father of Volodymyr Monomakh, and Vsevolod III the Big Nest (12th century) — one of the mightiest Vladimir-Suzdal princes. The name «Vsevolod» is also mentioned in «The Tale of Ihor's Campaign» — in honour of the Kursk prince Vsevolod Svyatoslavych. In Ukrainian tradition the name is old, infrequent, but steadily in use.
Proto-Slavic roots: vĭśĭ («all, every») + volděti («to rule») — «one who rules over all».
Equivalents in other languages: Vsevolod (Russian, English transliteration), Visvaldas (Lithuanian), Visvaldis (Latvian).
