Male Ukrainian name (Євген)
Yevhen (Ukrainian: Євген) is a male name of Greek origin meaning «noble», «of noble birth», «well-born».
The name derives from Ancient Greek Εὐγένιος (Eugénios), formed from εὖ (eu, «well») and γένος (genos, «kin, birth»). In the Greco-Roman world it was widespread among the aristocracy as a marker of noble origin. The name entered the Christian tradition through several early saints, notably Saint Eugene of Chersonesus and Eugene of Trapezus. The Ukrainian form Yevhen, with its characteristic «ye-» beginning, is native (in contrast with Russian Yevgeny). The name spread especially widely in the 19th–20th centuries.
From Ancient Greek Eugénios: eu («well») + genos / genēs («kin, birth») — «well-born», «noble».
