Female Ukrainian name (Юлія)
Yuliia (Ukrainian: Юлія) is a female name of Latin origin meaning «of the Julii gens», «belonging to the Julii» — one of the oldest and most noble Roman gentes.
The name derives from Latin Iulia — the feminine form of the gens name Iulius. The Julii family traced its descent from the Trojan hero Iulus (Yulus), son of Aeneas, the legendary ancestor of the Romans. The most famous representative of the gens was Gaius Julius Caesar (100–44 BC) — general, dictator, and reformer of the Roman state. In Christian tradition the name entered through several early Christian saints — the martyr Julia of Corsica (5th century). It came to the Slavs through Greco-Byzantine (Ἰουλία, Ioulía) and Latin literature. In Ukraine Yuliia is an old, venerated name; the Ukrainian form with final -ія is the native tradition. In the 20th–21st centuries it is one of the most popular female names.
From Latin Iulia — the feminine form of Iulius (an ancient Roman gens name); the Julii gens derived its origin from Trojan Iulus, son of Aeneas.
