Meaning

Myroslav (Ukrainian: Мирослав) is a male name of Slavic origin meaning «glorious in peace», «one whose glory is peaceful», «one who glorifies peace».

Origin & History

The name is formed from two Proto-Slavic roots: *mirъ («peace, calm, world»; also «communal community») and *slava («glory»). It belongs to the family of ancient compound Slavic names widespread among the southern and western Slavs; it was borne by numerous medieval rulers — among them 10th–11th century Czech and Croatian princes. It entered the Slavic onomasticon without the mediation of Greek or Latin literature. In the Ukrainian tradition Myroslav saw a surge in popularity in the 20th century, particularly in Western Ukraine, as an expression of Slavic continuity.

Etymology & Roots

Proto-Slavic roots: mirŭ («peace, calm») + slava («glory»); composite sense «glorious in peace».
